Chapter 6 – Information Technology and Other Topics

We have reached a significant milestone in the BEC BOOST program. Our last chapter of material! Can you believe you are at this point in your studies? After Chapter 6 of BOOST, you will move to your final review. Please don’t forget to use the guidance we provide in the "final review" module on the site!

Related to retaining the material, we hope around the end of your studies for Chapter 5 of BOOST, you took a practice test on the previous material to provide you feedback regarding how well you understand this material and are retaining it (remember, if you are not retaining it, you need to consider changing your study plan).

The chapter 6 material places a heavy emphasis on memorizing definitions and lists. Thus, you are probably going to feel that you are memorizing a bunch of lists with less of a big picture understanding of the underlying concepts. This is normal. Also, on your actual CPA exam, most of your pretest questions (i.e., multiple choice, simulations, and written communications tasks that do not count towards your score) will come from this chapter. So, if you feel during your actual exam that there are a number of information technology concepts that you have never seen before, this is natural. Be prepared for this and understand that most, if not all, of the CPA candidates taking the BEC section are feeling the same way. Overall, BEC BOOST students have consistently noted that the material in chapter 6 is heavily tested on the BEC section (a little more than the 25% noted by the AICPA). So, please pay particular attention to this material, especially memorizing these definitions and lists.

As it seems we have reminded you about 500 times, please don't rush through this material and take your time to understand it. Remember, an additional week of studying (if needed) will be well worth it if the additional time is the difference between passing and failing the BEC section of the CPA exam!

Given that the next step in your CPA exam preparation is final review, we DO NOT suggest that you take a practice test (with only multiple choice) when you are close to completing Chapter 6 of BOOST.
